Native Plant Resources

Pat Sutton’s “List of Some Sources of Native Plants in NJ, DE, eastern MD, and eastern PA”

Pat Sutton’s list of “New Jersey’s Native Trees, Shrubs, and Vines That are Most Beneficial to Birds” — This list is annotated with the number of NJ bird species that feed on fruits, seeds, cones, or catkins of each.  And in March 2024, Pat added an Addendum (page 4) with the # caterpillar species that use many of them as a Host Plant (using Doug Tallamy’s information).

Pat Sutton’s “Gardening for Pollinators” handout — This is my most in-depth handout.  It truly complements all my other handouts.  It includes many, many links to terrific resources that will save you time, energy, and money as you garden for pollinators and all wildlife.

Pat Sutton’s “Shade Gardening in the Mid-Atlantic” handouts, including (1) Resources and (2) a list of native plants Pat has successfully utilized in her own South Jersey woodlands.

Pat Sutton’s “Lose the Lawn, Create a Meadow Instead” handouts (Part 1 = pages 1-4, Part 2 = pages 5-6).

Scroll down through Pat’s post on “Ruby-throated Hummingbirds: How to Attract Them” to reach Pat Sutton’s Ruby-throated Hummingbird Fact Sheet, which includes “Wildlife Gardening for Hummingbirds” on page 2 sharing favorite hummingbird nectar plants, season-by-season.
